"Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon a great crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers in arms on other fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle hardened, he will fight savagely.

But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man to man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our home fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to victory!

I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory!

Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking."

-- Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower

The Day remembered in one of the most moving speeches in American history.

I'd like to believe that somewhere in the hearts of Americans the courage and purpose that enabled those brave men to storm those beaches still lives.  As Americans we have so much to be proud of.  Never, NEVER forget!

It doesn't get any better than this!  At least it made me smile.  I have a feeling I won't be smiling once BHO makes his "Please Forgive Us For We Have Sinned" speech to the Muslim world.

"Republics are created by the virtue, public spirit, and
intelligence of the citizens. They fall, when the wise are banished
from the public councils, because they dare to be honest, and
the profligate are rewarded, because they flatter the people,
in order to betray them."
Justice Joseph Story
(1779-1845) US Supreme Court Justice
1833

"I believe the Court has no power to add to or subtract from the
procedures set forth by the founders...I shall not at any time
surrender my belief that the document itself should be our guide, not
our own concept of what is fair, decent, and right."
Justice Hugo L. Black
1969 Interview

“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her
experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a
white male who hasn’t lived that life,”
Sonia Sotomayor, nominee for The Supreme Court of The United States
In a speech given in 2001

Anything jump out at you here?  I realize we're all products of our circumstances.  Thousands of things large and small grind the lens through which we see the universe and contribute to how we evaluate the world around us.  However, I worry about a Justice who believes that their ethnicity or gender better qualify them to interpret the Constitution of The United States.

To borrow the words of Abraham Lincoln, it is "fitting and right" that we remember those who sacrificed everything that we might be free.  Let us not ever take our liberty and freedom for granted.

I'm certain I don't have to remind you why most of us don't have to go to work on Monday.  Have a wonderful holiday weekend . . . Spend a bit of time reflecting on the many blessings of liberty we have in large part because of the sacrifices of others.  May it inspire us to fight on to preserve our God given freedoms!
