The Browns came to Washington D.C. bearing gifts, Top Shop dresses (with matching necklaces) and a selection of books by British authors for the Obama girls, and an ornamental desk pen holder made from the oak timbers of Victorian anti-slaver HMS Gannet, once named HMS President for Barry. It's fairly obvious to the casual observer that some thought went in to selecting those gifts.  And in return, what parting gifts did the Obamas bestow on the Brown family?

Gordon Brown has been given a collection of 25 classic American films on DVD as his official gift from Barack Obama.

The Prime Minister flew home from his successful trip to Washington this morning with the 'special collector's box' of films hidden in his luggage.

And for the Brown's two sons?

Mrs Obama gave the Brown children, Fraser and John, two toy models of Marine One, the Presidential helicopter. Fair enough on the helicopter part, always a popular choice with small boys; but Marine One? It’s not as though anyone needs reminding that Barack Obama is President or that he has his own helicopter. Short of giving the boys Action Man models of her own husband smiting the evil forces of neoconservatism

Well . . . that does it!  I'm officially declaring the Obamas a national embarrassment!  Here's an idea, Barack.  Why don't you create another cabinet post for a personal shopper.  God knows you could use one!

The AFL-CIO is darn near giddy. It appears that the Employee Free Choice Act is alive and well and headed to Congress. They got the good word yesterday when, appearing by way of video feed to an executive council meeting in Miami,  Dear Leader reassured union leaders that EFCA has his full support.

And as we confront this crisis and work to provide health care to every American, rebuild our nation’s infrastructure, move toward a clean energy economy, and pass the Employee Free Choice Act, I want you to know that you will always have a seat at the table.

Buttressed by a new statement of support from President Obama, union leaders said today they are confident that the Employee Free Choice Act would be introduced in Congress in the next few weeks and that they had the 60 votes needed to break a Senate filibuster -- that is, if Al Franken is seated.

"We're confident right now that we have majority support," said Bill Samuel, the AFL-CIO's legislative director, speaking in a conference call from the AFL-CIO's executive council meeting in Miami. T)he bill would be introduced in "days if not weeks," he said. "We've been engaged in a marathon on this, and now we're ready to sprint."

The legislation, by far the top priority for organized labor, would make it easier to form unions because it gives workers the option of organizing by having workers sign cards of support, instead of going through secret-ballot elections that labor leaders say can be marked by intimidation by employers. The legislation would require employers to submit to binding arbitration if they were unable to agree to a contract within 90 days after a union's formation.

In case you haven't figured it out by now, this is NOT good news!  Here's a five minute video explaining why.

This proposed legislation has potential intimidation written all over it.  If EFCA bothers you too, tell a member of Congress, and while you're at it call or write the guy occupying the White House too.

Buyer's remorse is quickly approaching epidemic levels.  Yesterday is was David Brooks, today Maureen Dowd.

They may need a support group before the month is out. They could gather in New York or Washington where many victims reside. The meetings would start: “I’m Maureen [or David]. I’m a duped Barack voter. And I’m mad.”

The ranks indeed are filling with the disaffected and the disappointed — Chris Buckley, Maureen Dowd, David Brooks, David Gergen, and even that gynecological sleuth and blogger Andrew Sullivan. And then there is the very angry Marty Peretz. Their complaints are varied but expressed with equal amounts of remorse and bitterness. They all have been done wrong by Barack.

These are the famous of those duped by Barack Hussein Obama.  It's likely that it will take a little longer for the average Kool-aid drinker on the street to come to the sad realization that if it weren't for broken promises, President Obama would hold no promise at all.

I'd like to whip up a little sympathy here, but when I try I keep hearing Connie Francis singing "Who's Sorry Now"

"You had your way.  Now you must pay . . . I'm glad that you're sorry now!"

Pity that those of us who saw this coming must pay too.

The Senate passed the 410 billion dollar omnibus spending bill previously passed by the house.  President O has indicated he'll sign it, earmarks and all.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Senators love their earmarks.

The Senate refused Tuesday to jettison thousands of pet projects from a large spending bill. The vote was an overwhelming 63-32.

Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona led the attempt to delete the earmarks. Taxpayers for Common Sense says there are 8,570 congressional earmarks in the bill, worth $7.7 billion.

McCain's proposal also would have kept overall spending at last year's level. Overall, it would have reduced the cost of the $410 billion bill by about $32 billion.

The legislation contains funds to keep many federal agencies to remain in operation after Friday.

Sixty percent of the earmarks in this bill were inserted by Democrats, forty percent by Republicans.  John McCain attempted without success to strip the bill of the pork.

The gutting of the American economy continues

UPDATE:

For your information and future use, here's a list of the porkiest of the porky.

1. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.): $122,804,900

2 Richard Shelby (R-Ala.): $114,484,250

3. Kit Bond (R-Mo.): $85,691,491

4. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.): $76,899,425

5. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.): $75,908,475

6. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska): $74,000,750

7. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa): $66,860,000

8. James Inhofe (R-Okla.): $53,133,500

9. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.): $51,186,000

10. Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii): $46,380,205

11. Patty Murray (D-Wash.): $39,228,250

12. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.): $36,547,100

13. Pat Leahy (D-Vt.): $36,161,125

14. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.): $35,577,250

15. Robert Casey (D-Pa.): $27,169,750

16. Harry Reid (D-Nev.): $26,628,613

17. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.): $25,320,000

18. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.): $23,832,000

19. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.): $21,952,250

20. Pete Domenici (R-N.M.), retired: $19,588,625

Of these top 20 big spenders, 12 are Democrats and 8 Republicans.  I find it difficult to believe that the money represented here (if it even exists) couldn't have been better spent by keeping it in the hands of the tax payers it was stolen from..

(CNSNews.com) – Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) had to cancel an appearance Monday at a global warming rally in Washington, D.C., that was hit by a snowstorm because her flight was delayed, her office told CNSNews.com.

Brianna Cayo-Cotter, the spokesman for the Energy Action Coalition that held the rally,  told a group of reporters that she had been in contact with Pelosi  and that her flight had been delayed because of inclement weather.

A blizzard Sunday night and early Monday morning blanketed the nation’s capital with snow, causing events to be cancelled and delayed across the city.

The rally was held in spite of the blizzard and was attended by hundreds of hearty souls.  No mention was made of how many attendees were treated for frostbite!

UPDATE:
Here's a photo of the protest which according to Daryl Hannah was not a protest against global warming.  The correct term is "climate chaos".   Smart move!  Now they've got all the bases covered.  No matter what the weather throws at us, it just proves their point.

Me thinks the chaos is largely inside their heads!

Rahm Emanuel Faced the Nation this morning, and announced that Rush Limbaugh is the voice of the Republican Party.

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel charged Sunday that conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh is “the voice and the intellectual force and energy behind the Republican Party.”

Emanuel, speaking in deliberately soothing tones, told anchor Bob Schieffer on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that Limbaugh has been up front about “praying for failure” by President Obama.

“I think that’s the wrong philosophy for America,” Emanuel said. “What Americans want us to do, and what President Obama has been very clear about, is work together setting our goals …

Who died and left him in charge of the Republican Party?  I must have missed the memo, or maybe there wasn't one and this unpromptu comment was just another political maneuver.

Emanuel’s comments, which came unprompted, were in line with a new strategy by White House allies in the private sector to make Limbaugh synonymous with the GOP. But Emanuel’s move for the first time brought that strategy into the West Wing, an unmistakable elevation of the effort to damage Republicans by depicting them as taking their marching orders from a deeply polarizing talk show host.

Good luck with that!  In the first place, leading the Republicans is a task similar to herding cats.  God knows they could use a leader, but presently the position seems to be up for grabs. I was glad to see Rush stand up at CPAC and give a speech that for the first time in a long time defined conservatism.  Does Rush speak for everyone in the Republican party, of course not, but he speaks for a large number of grass root conservatives (not all of whom are Republicans).  There's a lot of evidence supporting the theory that Republicans lost in '08 because they had drifted away from the principles of conservatism that Limbaugh and others stand for.  If standing on principles is polarizing, then so be it.  But somehow I don't think Rahm Emanuel knows much about principles!
