Rahm Emanuel Faced the Nation this morning, and announced that Rush Limbaugh is the voice of the Republican Party.

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel charged Sunday that conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh is “the voice and the intellectual force and energy behind the Republican Party.”

Emanuel, speaking in deliberately soothing tones, told anchor Bob Schieffer on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that Limbaugh has been up front about “praying for failure” by President Obama.

“I think that’s the wrong philosophy for America,” Emanuel said. “What Americans want us to do, and what President Obama has been very clear about, is work together setting our goals …

Who died and left him in charge of the Republican Party?  I must have missed the memo, or maybe there wasn't one and this unpromptu comment was just another political maneuver.

Emanuel’s comments, which came unprompted, were in line with a new strategy by White House allies in the private sector to make Limbaugh synonymous with the GOP. But Emanuel’s move for the first time brought that strategy into the West Wing, an unmistakable elevation of the effort to damage Republicans by depicting them as taking their marching orders from a deeply polarizing talk show host.

Good luck with that!  In the first place, leading the Republicans is a task similar to herding cats.  God knows they could use a leader, but presently the position seems to be up for grabs. I was glad to see Rush stand up at CPAC and give a speech that for the first time in a long time defined conservatism.  Does Rush speak for everyone in the Republican party, of course not, but he speaks for a large number of grass root conservatives (not all of whom are Republicans).  There's a lot of evidence supporting the theory that Republicans lost in '08 because they had drifted away from the principles of conservatism that Limbaugh and others stand for.  If standing on principles is polarizing, then so be it.  But somehow I don't think Rahm Emanuel knows much about principles!

Read The Bill from Sunlight Foundation on Vimeo.

This seems like a no brainer. How could anyone vote for a bill they haven't read? And shouldn't the public have adequate time to examine legislation to determine if it's in their best interest?

A coalition of good-government groups, led by CRP, is kicking off a campaign -- "Read the Bill" -- calling for Hill leadership to live up to their commitment to giving the public 72 hours to review legislation before it's passed.

Their argument seems compelling: That the 72-Hour Rule is most necessary in instances (like the stimulus) where it is most likely to be waived.

There should be no waiving this requirement (unless it involves spurting blood or a mushroom cloud).  In fact, when a bill is 1100 pages long maybe the 72-Hour Rule ought to be doubled. (to accommodate slow readers!)  What's the big rush? Afraid that if we find out what's really in there we'll get angry!?  I thought so!

Sign the petition!

Tea Party protests were held in states all across the country today. Groups of dozens to hundreds met to protest the destructive policies of the Obama administration.  There are more tea parties planned for the coming months.  Billed as rehearsals, today's protests were only the beginning.  We must stand up and be counted.  We must make our voices heard. We must do what we can to stop this socialist runaway freight train.

UPDATE:

You will also want to check out this website.  It looks like a lot of people turned out today.  Now we need to just keep the fire burning!

Personally I not only want to hear more "no"s, I'd like a few "never"s, a liberal number of "over my dead body"s and a "when hell freezes over" or two thrown in.  Oh yeah, and turn up the volume a notch or two while you're at it.

And to the liberals who produced this ad.  No happens to be the proper response to a proposed action that is either dangerous, or just plain too stupid to consider.  If you need an example, go read the stimulus bill, it meets both criteria.  If you can't read, go find a conservative to read it to you.
